Document chat
Every document has a built-in chat sidebar. Discuss changes without leaving the doc or switching to another app. Chat history is preserved.
@mentions
Type @ in any document to tag a workspace member. They get an in-app notification with a link to the document.

Headings, paragraphs, bullet lists, numbered lists, task checklists, blockquotes, inline code, code blocks, images, links, and dividers.
Multi-color highlighting
Highlight text in yellow, green, blue, pink, orange, purple, or red. Pick colors from a palette on the toolbar.
Image embedding
Paste or upload images up to 20 MB directly into documents. Compressed automatically — no external storage required.
Export
Export any document as HTML, plain text, or print to PDF using your browser's built-in print dialog.

Workspaces
Separate spaces for different teams or projects. Members, roles, and documents are fully scoped per workspace.
Full-text search
Search across document titles and content in your workspace. Results show matching excerpts with context.
Document sharing
Share documents with specific teammates (view or edit access), or generate a public link for view-only access.
Security
Two-factor authentication
Enable TOTP-based 2FA from your account settings. Compatible with Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, and any standard authenticator app.
Invite-only access
NoteSmith is currently invite-only. Admins control who can sign up, tracking all invites for future referral programs.
Email verification
All accounts require email verification before login. Unverified accounts cannot access the platform.
Encrypted connections
All traffic between your browser and our servers is encrypted with TLS. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and never stored in plaintext.
Notifications
In-app notifications
Bell icon in the header shows unread activity. Notifications for mentions, shares, and document activity. Mark individual or all as read.
Dark mode
Full dark mode support throughout the app. Choose Light, Dark, or System from Settings → Appearance.
Mobile-friendly
Responsive layout works on phones and tablets. Slide-in sidebar on mobile, horizontal-scroll toolbar, full-screen chat panel.
